About
Astrid was born in Grenoble, France. She discovered a passion for slow shutter photography and left to study photography and audiovisual art at the Université Lumière Lyon 2. She pursued her master’s degree and moved to Brussels, Belgium. Astrid worked for many years on the perception of time through photography and videography. Doing so, she felt a growing urge to create ‘with her hands’ and decided to study Comic Strips and Illustration at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Brussels.
New beginnings
In 2011, Astrid moved to San Diego, California, with her husband and two children. Sensing that her creative path was changing, she naturally directed herself towards the use of simple materials, such as paper and thread. She explored paper cutouts and learned embroidery on paper.
Embroidery on paper
Today, Astrid works from her home in Poway, where she combines different elements to bring her visions to life. Paper and embroidery are her primary materials, but fabric and paint, among others, often appear in her work. The thread is the link, the connection between all the elements that form the image.

Poway Arts and Crafts Guild
Since July 2023, I have been a member of the Poway Arts and Crafts Guild, a nonprofit organization that promotes traditional crafts and craftsmanship in the local community.

Astrid Mussi est née à Grenoble, en France. Elle se découvre une passion pour la photographie à longue exposition et part étudier la photographie et l’art audiovisuel à l’Université Lumière Lyon 2. Elle passe sa maîtrise et déménage à Bruxelles, en Belgique. Astrid va travailler pendant plusieurs années sur la perception du temps à travers la photographie et la vidéo. Se faisant, elle ressent un besoin grandissant de créer ‘avec ses mains’ et décide d’étudier la Bande Dessinée et l’Illustration à l’Académie royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles.
De nouveaux départs
En 2011, Astrid déménage avec son mari et ses deux enfants à San Diego, en Californie. Elle sent que son chemin créatif est en train de changer et elle se dirige tout naturellement vers l’utilisation de matériaux simples comme le papier et le fil. Elle explore les découpages de papier et apprend la broderie sur papier.
Broderie sur papier
Aujourd’hui, Astrid travaille depuis chez elle, à Poway. Le papier et la broderie sont ses matériaux premiers, mais le tissu et la peinture entre autres, se joignent à ses compositions. Le fil est le lien, la connexion entre tous les éléments qui font l’image.
